Time for a Reset? Let That Sh*t Go
Shannon Smith Beasley, Guest Contributor
This year, spring sprung without me realizing it. At first, I was frustrated for being behind, but then I adjusted and let that sh*t go.
I love my porch. It is literally what I dreamed of. Lining the steps with cute planters and fabulous plants. Cozy sitting area. But then, in the midst of the busiest month of my entire career, a heavy school board calendar, and life, I neglected it. Forgot about it. Funny how that happens. We pray for things and then once upon us, we move on. No bueno.
This weekend we had a reset. One of my children helped me pull everything off the porch, clean, fluff, refresh and water, and then feel at peace again with restored color and life on the porch.
I usually win the battle of the barn swallows. Not this year. In one day, they’ve already resettled in their own thick adobe nests. Now the babies are peaking out and I’m letting their sh*t go too (yes, the pile I find every afternoon at the foot of the front door).
Life by design includes all sorts of adjustments—the resetting of expectations for myself and the world around me. It’s all a lot of hard work. And beautiful. If you are overdue for some fresh flowers in your life, do it. You are so worth it!
