FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What are GoodBetterNext groups?

GoodBetterNext brings together groups of 10-12 women in regularly scheduled weekly online video sessions.

Each session lasts for approximately one hour and is led by a trained GoodBetterNext facilitator.

The sessions run for twelve consecutive weeks (except holidays).

Who is it for?

GoodBetterNext groups are specifically designed for women over 40 who find themselves newly single after years of being partnered.  Our members are committed to healing and personal growth as we author our next chapters.

We believe in the model of women helping women, where real conversation with other women who are walking the same path you are can share their wisdom and experience as we all grow together.

How are groups formed?

When you join GoodBetterNext as a member, you will be asked to complete a short application that helps us better understand your unique circumstances along with your goals.

Our advanced group matching algorithms will recommend some specific groups that we feel can best connect you with:

  • Other similarly situated women.

  • A facilitator that you will feel comfortable and confident with.

  • Weekly topics and lesson plans that best track to your areas of greatest interest.

How do I join a group?

After submitting the membership questionnaire and receiving notification that your application has been processed, you can log in to the Member Portal and:

  • Decide which facilitator you think you may best connect with.  You will be able to read about them and view a short video of your facilitator discussing her approach to these sessions.

  • View the topics that will be covered across the twelve sessions.  Our recommendations are based on the topics you said were most important to you right now.

Once you’ve decided which group feels right, you will “Request to Join.”  Your facilitator will reach out shortly afterward to confirm your reservation.

What is the application process?

We’ve carefully designed an application that should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. Your answers will remain fully confidential. Only the corporate staff at GoodBetterNext and your facilitator will have access to your responses. From this application we learn:

  • a bit more about your particular situation. For example, if you are a 42 year old with elementary age kids at home, you may be steered toward groups with others in a similar place of life.

  • which topic areas you are most interested in exploring.  It may be dating and relationships. It may be wellness and self care. It may be career reboot or financial management. We strive to recommend groups that are planning to cover the topics you care most about.

What is my commitment?

When you sign up for your group you are making a commitment to attend and engage for the full twelve weeks.  We understand that life sometimes intervenes and you may not make every session.  That’s OK.

You are committing to follow the GoodBetterNext guidelines on respecting the privacy and confidentiality of other group members and honoring a diversity of both experience and opinion.  (Insert link to GBN guidelines here)

What happens in my group?

Weekly Agenda: Prior to your scheduled session you will receive an email from your facilitator with:

  • Discussion topic(s) for this week.

  • A few thought provoking exercises to get you thinking about how this topic relates to your experience.

  • Related resource links. These might be videos, blog posts, book excerpts, or even music that directly relates to your weekly topic.

Welcome Exercises: Your facilitator will open each session with a group exercise designed to encourage an hour of authenticity and connection.

Core Topic Exploration: Your facilitator will lead group discussion on this week’s topic. Some topics are expansive enough (like dating and relationships) that they will be covered across multiple weeks.

Weekly Takeaways: Each session will conclude with an around-the-table recap of what each member felt was the most insightful, useful, or challenging idea discussed.

Is there a private space to connect with my group members and facilitator between weekly sessions?

YES! Members will have a private group space online to share experiences and communicate between sessions. This is also where resources like Weekly Agenda and related links can be found.

How are weekly topics selected?

Topics presented are based on both the selected preferences of the group and by the facilitator’s own experience with the topics.

Who will be facilitating my group and what are their credentials?

It is important to know that this is NOT traditional group therapy. Our facilitators are women just like you who are or have walked a similar path to the one you are on now. Each of our facilitators are fully trained in the GoodBetterNext program and are skilled at keeping group conversations lively and engaging.

What happens after my 12 week program?

At the end of the scheduled twelve sessions, members can choose to continue meeting in an un-facilitated reserved meeting room each week at the same time.

GoodBetterNext is currently developing additional “deep dive” focused groups on very specific and relevant topics that you may choose to join after your twelve weeks are concluded.  Stay tuned for announcements on this in the near future.

What if the group I chose doesn’t feel like a good fit for me?

We understand. Sometimes the chemistry just isn’t there with the group you’ve chosen. Once you have attended your first two group sessions, you may choose to be reassigned to another active group or start again by choosing a new group in a subsequent cohort. If you decide after the first two weeks that GoodBetterNext groups are not for you, we’ll gladly refund your membership fee.
